Macklemore has been removed from Ed Sheeran’s Loop tour after making pro-Palestinian comments during a concert at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium. His remarks about the plight of Palestinians, including a protest song dedicated to a young Palestinian girl killed in Gaza, led several U.S. venues to inform the tour promoters that they would not allow him to perform. Macklemore expressed confusion as to why this was an issue now, suggesting the heightened risk due to his association with Sheeran.
Despite his ongoing advocacy, Macklemore clarified his stance on peace and the importance of not equating criticism of Israel with antisemitism. The promoter confirmed that the decision was influenced by concerns from venues regarding the impact of Macklemore’s presence on the tour. Gillette Stadium owner Robert Kraft cited a history of what he described as antisemitic rhetoric as a reason for the decision, stating that Macklemore’s advocacy should not lead to harm against the Jewish community.
Although the rapper has received backlash, including from fellow artist Pink, he maintains no animosity towards Sheeran, whom he considers a friend. The tour is set to visit multiple major venues across the U.S.
