I haven’t used these weapons much in Monster Hunter Wilds, but the DLC footage is making me want to try them out.

The latest updates on Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance reveal exciting changes to three weapon types: Heavy Bowgun, Lance, and Switch Axe.

Heavy Bowgun

The Heavy Bowgun is set to receive several new mechanics, including:

  • Boost Driver Attack: Fires a powerful laser beam.
  • Overcharge Mechanic: Enables the user to fire all ammunition in one enhanced shot.
  • Plasma Shot: A close-range attack akin to the Mega Man series.

During Boost Mode, players can reload while dodging attacks, and Adhesive Ammo now fires multiple pellets at once.

Lance

The Lance will feature:

  • A new Boost Driver attack that slams into a monster.
  • Enhanced combo capabilities, allowing multiple stabs and a new counterattack with a shield smash that creates a shockwave.

Players can also block while running, adding a layer of strategy during offensive maneuvers.

Switch Axe

The Switch Axe will see improvements in both its modes:

  • A new Boost Driver attack in Axe Mode that immediately fills the Sword Mode’s resource gauge.
  • Enhanced combo paths and speed for counterattacks when the Boost Gauge is active.

This update promises to make the Switch Axe more dynamic and versatile in combat.

Final Thoughts

All these changes aim to enhance gameplay dynamics for each weapon type, potentially making them more enjoyable to play. Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance launches in 2027 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
