Flights set to restart at Tweed New Haven Airport following flood-related cancellations.

Flights Resume at Tweed New Haven Airport After Flooding

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) – Flights are set to resume at Tweed New Haven Airport on Monday morning following the cancellation of all departures due to flash flooding on Sunday afternoon. The first flight is scheduled to depart at 6:30 a.m., according to the airport’s flight status board.

Runway Cleared After Sunday Flooding

Less than 24 hours prior, the runway was partially submerged, and water also entered the airport. This caused significant travel disruptions, with all flights leaving New Haven canceled on Sunday. Fortunately, water levels have receded, and Tweed officials have confirmed that the runway is clear for Monday operations.

Neighbors Cite Flooding in Opposition to Expansion

Residents near the airport expressed concerns about recurring flooding, which fuels their opposition to the proposed expansion of Tweed. The airport’s management argues that incidents like Sunday’s flooding highlight existing challenges and serve as justification for the expansion, which would include a new terminal.

Neighbors fear that increased development could exacerbate flooding issues. Katie Bennett, a local resident, voiced her concerns: “It’s terrible. It really floods. It’s really concerning. Even if they say they will raise it up … it’s a wetland.” She added that the airport should not be granted permits for expansion, calling it “an accident waiting to happen.”

Travelers Urged to Check Flight Status

Officials advise travelers with flights out of Tweed on Monday to monitor their flight status for any updates or changes throughout the day.
