Nozomi Energy secures financing for 196MWh Nozu battery energy storage initiative in Japan.

The Nozu project, awarded under Japan’s FY2023 Long-Term Decarbonisation Auction, represents a key milestone for Nozomi Energy in enhancing Japan’s decarbonisation efforts. It benefits from a 20-year CPI-linked capacity payment, reflecting the company’s ongoing strategy to develop critical energy infrastructure.

Nozomi Energy obtained non-recourse project financing from Aozora Bank, showcasing its expertise in battery energy storage systems (BESS). The company is expanding its BESS pipeline in response to strong demand for renewable energy, with construction on the Nozu project set to begin soon and completion aimed for Q3 2028.

The company is also developing additional greenfield projects in solar and onshore wind, targeting a 1.1GW portfolio by 2027. Earlier this year, Nozomi secured refinancing for nine operational solar projects totaling approximately 110MWdc.

Jose Antonio Millan Ruano, CEO of Nozomi Energy, emphasized the significance of financial close on the Nozu project for the company’s growth in flexible energy infrastructure, thanking Aozora Bank for its support. Tareq Sirhan from Actis praised Nozomi’s progress toward becoming a leader in Japan’s renewable energy market.
