One9/5R Travel Plaza Opening in Emporia
The One9 and 5R travel plaza complex in far west Emporia has begun a phased opening. Although it’s not fully operational yet, both sections—One9 for semis and heavy trucks and 5R for passenger vehicles—officially launched last Friday. Currently, Sbarro is open, with India Eats and Starbucks set to follow soon.
This project has been in development for over six years, initially announced just before the COVID-19 pandemic in January 2020, with groundbreaking occurring nearly a year ago. There were plans for a potential sale to LV Petroleum this past July.
In addition to the travel plaza, construction is moving forward for a strip mall and hotel immediately east of the site, although partners and timelines are still to be determined.
Significant construction activity continues in west Emporia, highlighted by the recent openings of QuikTrip and PetSmart at the Emporia Pavilions. The new travel plaza is situated east of the Flying J travel plaza and southwest of QuikTrip.
