BCHC awarded funding by PENN Entertainment Foundation, Inc. to enhance mobile medical services.

Berks Community Health Center (BCHC) recently received a grant from the PENN Entertainment Foundation, Inc. to support its mobile medical unit, Wellness on Wheels, over the next three years. This funding aims to enhance access to healthcare for underserved communities, crucial to BCHC’s mission.

Eric Schippers, Sr. Vice President of PENN Entertainment, expressed pride in supporting BCHC’s efforts in the community. Launched in 2022, Wellness on Wheels has expanded BCHC’s reach beyond Reading, ensuring care is available throughout Berks County.

Debbie Hartranft, BCHC’s Chief Community Relations Officer, emphasized the direct impact this funding will have on residents with limited access to healthcare.

This announcement follows the retirement of BCHC’s first CEO, Mary Kargbo, who led the organization for nearly 15 years, during which BCHC earned recognition as a Gold Health Center Quality Leader. Additionally, BCHC plans to merge with Union Community Care, enhancing its commitment to providing high-quality, affordable care to patients. The grant will support this ongoing mission.
