On September 12, Lodz, Poland, hosted a vibrant showcase of Taiwan’s traditional temple culture. The event, organized by the National Cultural Association of Taiwan (NCAT), featured lively performances, traditional music, deity processions, and a Taiwan-themed market, captivating local audiences.
Taipei Gong Le Xuan, a century-old Beiguan music ensemble, performed alongside the Lei Sheng Art Group, known for its folk religious and temple performances. Member Chen Li-ting expressed initial nerves about how Polish audiences would react, but found that many visitors were intrigued, recording the performances and engaging with the traditional instruments.
The Taiwan-themed market allowed visitors to taste Taiwanese cuisine and explore handicrafts, further immersing them in Taiwanese culture. Jeff Liu, Taiwan’s representative in Poland, emphasized the event as a platform to promote Taiwan’s culture abroad, while Lodz Deputy Mayor Adam Pustelnik noted the blend of Taiwanese and Polish traditions.
The event in Lodz is part of a cultural tour by the NCAT through Austria, Hungary, and Poland, showcasing various aspects of Taiwanese culture until September 19.
