‘Widow’s Bay’ and ‘The Pitt’ Leading Contenders for Emmy Awards – Entertainment News

Apple TV’s new horror-comedy series Widow’s Bay and gritty drama The Pitt are frontrunners heading into the Emmy Awards, scheduled for this Monday in Los Angeles.

Widow’s Bay, featuring Matthew Rhys as a quirky New England mayor looking to attract tourists amidst ghostly tales, has already claimed eight awards in early Emmy ceremonies, including honors for best comedy casting and best guest actress for Betty Gilpin.

Television critic Christopher Rosen notes the show’s immense popularity and suggests Rhys could win his first comedy Emmy, with co-stars Kate O’Flynn and Stephen Root also favored in supporting categories. Rosen anticipates Widow’s Bay to outperform its competitors, including the final season of Hacks, which has garnered 24 nominations.

Jean Smart is seen as a strong contender for best actress for her role in Hacks, with the potential to tie for the most acting Emmys if she wins.

On the drama side, The Pitt—which portrays life in a Pittsburgh emergency room—has 25 nominations and is expected to dominate the drama categories after winning four awards already. Star Noah Wyle is favored for more accolades, while the best drama actress race is tight between Rhea Seehorn and Keri Russell.

In limited series, HBO Max’s DTF St Louis is a standout, competing against Netflix’s Beef.

The 78th Emmy Awards will be hosted by Mariska Hargitay, who also won two Emmys for her documentary My Mom Jayne. The ceremony begins at 5:00 p.m. local time on Monday.
