Police are investigating a robbery at a gas station where masked thieves targeted gaming machines. The incident occurred around 3:35 a.m. on September 9 in Green Oaks, when Lake County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene.
Five masked individuals entered the gas station wielding sledgehammers and crowbars, breaking into gaming machines and a cash register drawer. An accomplice waited outside in a black SUV. After quickly stealing from the machines, the group fled south on Interstate 294 at high speed.
A private security guard hired by the gaming company was present during the robbery. The Lake County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division is currently looking into the case, with a specialized task force formed to address a rising trend in gaming machine burglaries across the Chicago region. Detectives are collaborating and sharing information to identify the suspects and bring them to justice.
