KPD recommends limited travel to essential purposes only amid current recovery efforts.

The Kaua’i Police Department (KPD) is advising the public to limit travel to essential trips only due to ongoing recovery operations from Hurricane Lowell. Traffic congestion is hindering recovery efforts, as officers work with various agencies to clear debris and restore utilities.

Key points include:

  • A single-lane closure on Kaumuali’i Highway (Route 50) is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. around Kipu Road to Kaumakani for storm cleanup.
  • Motorists must exercise caution and obey traffic regulations, including pulling over for emergency vehicles.
  • Non-essential traffic disrupts recovery efforts, delaying debris removal and repairs.
  • Residents should report hazards without stopping to take photos.

For emergencies, call 911. Non-emergency inquiries can be directed to KPD Dispatch at 808-755-8516 or 808-652-7837. Further recovery information can be found at kauairecovers.org, and for emergency alerts, visit kauai.gov/kema.
