Volvo Group unveils energy park project as the next phase in Mariestad.

Volvo Group is making significant strides towards fossil-free transport solutions with the development of the Volvo Mariestad energy park. This initiative is part of their broader commitment to sustainability and aims to support the regional energy grid by installing large-scale energy storage systems that will use Volvo Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

The energy park, set to operate by 2027, will serve as a demonstration site, facilitating practical learning and development in energy solutions. It aims to stabilize the energy market by allowing stored energy to flow back into the grid as needed.

Lars Stenqvist of Volvo Group highlights the park’s role in supporting both the company’s and Sweden’s decarbonization efforts. The facility will feature approximately 70MW/260 MWh of battery storage capacity and will function alongside a planned battery cell production plant to meet the increasing demand for battery-electric vehicles and machinery.
