Auburn Rec Offers Free Group Fitness Classes Forever

Get Fit at Auburn: Free Group Fitness Classes for Students at The Rec

Auburn University’s Campus Recreational Center, affectionately called “The Rec,” has exciting news for students—group fitness classes are now completely free! Starting in Spring 2026, these classes are included as part of student tuition, and registration is currently open on the Auburn Rec’s RWC Connect website.

Since opening its doors in 2013, Auburn University Recreation and Wellness has made group fitness classes a cornerstone of its offerings. These classes not only help students stay active but also provide a fantastic way to relieve stress and foster community among peers.

The Rec offers a diverse range of classes tailored to all skill levels, from beginners to advanced fitness enthusiasts. Current offerings include sunrise yoga, Tigerpump, Pilates, Zumba, and much more, with 24 different classes available throughout the week. Most classes take place daily in specialized studios within The Rec. For the latest schedule, students can easily check the Auburn Campus Recreation app.

Starting January 2026, participation in these group fitness classes will come at no extra cost to students, as they’ll be included in the student recreation fee. To join, students need only their Tiger ID for admission. They can register for unlimited classes as long as they are enrolled at Auburn. Detailed instructions for signing up are on The Rec’s website or can be obtained by visiting the help desk located in the lobby.

“With the launch of the ‘Group Fitness Forever Free’ campaign, we aim to lower barriers to participation and cultivate a supportive environment for everyone,” shared Susie Weigel, assistant director of group fitness at The Rec. “The removal of the $50 group fitness pass allows us to welcome all members more warmly, making fitness enjoyable and friendly.”

Classes are designed to fit into students’ busy schedules, enhancing their wellness and overall quality of life. For those seeking a more relaxed environment, “Mindful Mondays” offers a meditation-based session every Monday at 4 p.m., also free for students.

“I love that participants no longer have to worry about fees; this makes trying new classes so much easier,” said Emily Otto, a group fitness instructor at The Rec. “Seeing new faces in my classes adds to the fun!”

Anyone interested in becoming a group fitness instructor—be they students, faculty, or staff—can apply regardless of prior experience. Opportunities are available year-round, encouraging both personal growth and community leadership.

For an individualized experience, students can also request sessions with Auburn Recreation and Wellness professionals. Those interested can visit the request a professional page for more information.

While non-students, including faculty and staff, can also participate in fitness classes, they will need to pay a fee. Thankfully, these classes are available to everyone, even those not affiliated with Auburn University.

In addition to group classes, The Rec is equipped with state-of-the-art fitness machines for self-paced workouts. For more information on group fitness and additional facilities, visit Auburn University Recreation and Wellness’ official website or stop by The Rec located at 601 Heisman Drive.
