Celebrity Traitors and Clarkson’s Farm Win Big at National Television Awards
The first celebrity spin-off of the BBC hit Celebrity Traitors was awarded Best Reality Competition at the National Television Awards, with comedian Alan Carr revealed as a “traitor” in a suspenseful finale. Co-star Charlotte Church praised the show’s emotional depth, highlighting the male vulnerability showcased during the finale.
Carr received a special recognition award, celebrated with a performance by Amanda Holden and Paloma Faith, who made a dramatic entrance in a coffin, referencing her character’s fate in the show. Sir Stephen Fry also paid tribute, expressing how hard it is not to love Carr despite the character’s “wickedness.”
In another highlight, Clarkson’s Farm took home the Reality Docuseries prize, outshining other popular series. Host Jeremy Clarkson described the win as a “thrill,” acknowledging the public’s support for farmers. He also updated on his health, mentioning he is in remission from prostate cancer and joking about recent sheep thefts from his farm.
The evening featured a performance from The Hawkstone Farmers Choir, recent winners of Britain’s Got Talent, and included various other awards, with This Morning winning Best Daytime Show, and Strictly Come Dancing taking Best Talent Show.
Sir David Attenborough, honored as Best TV Presenter, emphasized the urgent need for action against climate change in his absence.
Other notable awards included Best Comedy for Mrs Brown’s Boys and Best Drama Performance for Vicky McClure in Trigger Point, who urged for better support for working-class actors.
