Local Entrepreneur Innovates Pet Waste Management with “Rinse-A-Poo”
Meet Dan Spangler, an entrepreneur with a unique twist—he’s tackling the often-unpleasant task of picking up pet waste with his invention, the “Rinse-A-Poo.”
“Hi, I’m Dan Spangler and I’m an entrepreneur.”
Picking up after pets can be a smelly and messy job, but Dan has found a way to make it cleaner.
“We’re gonna bring it to the backside and just scoop it all in.”
The Rinse-A-Poo features a patented poop shield designed to simplify the cleanup process. After disposing of the waste, users can connect a hose to rinse everything out effortlessly.
Dan’s journey into the pet care industry began after his career in the Marine Corps came to an abrupt end due to a severe injury.
“I left the military; I didn’t know what I was going to do… Fortunately, Spanky was there.”
Adopting Spanky, a rescue dog, proved life-changing for Dan. His bond with Spanky motivated him to become a certified dog trainer, leading to the establishment of his pet care business, A Dog’s Dream.
Driven by his passion, Dan also founded the Dreamer’s Foundation, which supports veterans and their pets through programs like ‘Operation Keep Your Spanky,’ providing essential services like pet food and low-cost veterinary care.
Currently, Dan is one of 14 finalists in the SBCN Startup Showdown, vying for a grand prize of $30,000 to further develop Rinse-A-Poo.
“That kind of money, he says, would change the game for the Rinse-A-Poo.”
Dan’s ultimate goal is to inspire others to pursue entrepreneurship:
“Just go for it; a lot of veterans and entrepreneurs hold themselves back… just make the jump.”
