Stratford Resident Taken into Custody Following Seizure of 10 Dogs in Animal Abuse Incident

A Stratford man, Malik Powell, 27, faces multiple charges after Animal Control officers removed 10 dogs from his home on Allencrest Drive. The action followed a complaint regarding the animals’ living conditions. On September 4, officers found eight pit bull mix puppies and two adult pit bull mixes in enclosures in the backyard. The dogs were taken to a veterinarian for evaluation and are currently at the Stratford Animal Control facility. Powell has been charged with nine counts of animal cruelty, two counts of failing to vaccinate the dogs for rabies, two counts of failing to license them, and nine counts of confining dogs. He was released on a promise to appear in court and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on October 7.
