If you’re hesitant about long-haul travel with little ones, the upcoming non-stop flights from Virgin Atlantic to Phuket might just change your mind. Launching in October 2026, I’m already on board!
Thailand is a popular destination lately, notably due to White Lotus Season 3 filming at the luxurious Four Seasons Koh Samui.
Instead of Bangkok, head to the beaches of Phuket for a few nights before island hopping to Koh Yao Noi, Krabi, and the famous Koh Phi Phi. You can find family-friendly accommodations like the cheapest nicest hotels in Thailand, making for an idyllic start to a tropical adventure.
Where to stay: Decide between a luxurious option like Trisara with private pools or resorts like Rosewood Phuket with kids’ activities. If you venture to nearby Koh Yao Noi, consider booking at Six Senses for a truly luxurious experience. Don’t miss the stunning Banyan Tree in Krabi.
February Half Term
Maldives, Indian Ocean
Flight time: Approx. 12 hours, plus a transfer from Male
Originally seen as just a romantic getaway, the Maldives is now a fantastic choice for families. Having visited in February, I can testify: the travel might seem daunting, but choosing an overnight flight made it manageable.
There are resorts that offer just a half-hour plane or boat ride from Male, so you’re not stuck in transit for too long. Many family-friendly resorts provide various activities, from dolphin spotting at sunrise to snorkelling with turtles. There’s no need to leave the resort, as they have activities to keep everyone engaged and entertained.
With everything catered for, from cooking classes to cycling around the island, the Maldives established itself in my mind as more than just a sunbathing destination. It’s a family trip that will leave lasting memories, even if it might not be a yearly tradition for everyone!
