Qatar’s Prime Minister Promises to Focus on China’s Energy Needs Amid Middle Eastern Strain

On Tuesday, Qatar emphasized its commitment to prioritizing energy supplies to China and ensuring the security of maritime shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. This pledge came during a meeting in Beijing between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. They highlighted the importance of maintaining uninterrupted maritime traffic and Qatar’s support for diplomatic efforts aimed at ensuring freedom of navigation and fostering lasting peace in the region.

The discussions also covered key regional developments, ongoing diplomatic initiatives to alleviate tensions, and ways to enhance bilateral relations. Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed Doha’s intention to collaborate closely with China, identifying it as Qatar’s largest trading and energy partner. The Qatari foreign ministry stated that both nations seek to create a prosperous next decade of bilateral relations.
