Historic Juan Gabriel Performance Coming to Theaters
EL PASO, Texas – A collaboration between Sony Music Latin and Cinemex is set to bring a landmark concert performance back to life on the big screen. “Juan Gabriel: Mi Primer Bellas Artes” will showcase the legendary Mexican singer’s iconic 1990 show at Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City with restored footage, premiering in the United States on September 15.
Maria Jose Cuevas, the film’s documentary director, expressed her excitement about the concert being featured in theaters, emphasizing its significance in Mexican music history. “It’s really an amazing experience. And, it’s the most important concert in history,” Cuevas stated.
The film is expected to have a substantial cultural impact, as music from Juan Gabriel’s performance was widely shared on social media during the Mexican national team’s participation in the World Cup. The screening will also include a previously unseen introduction with rehearsal footage from Juan Gabriel’s personal archives, as announced by Sony Music Vision and Fathom Entertainment.
In Juarez, Juan Gabriel’s hometown, the film is already screening at local theaters, while showings in El Paso will coincide with the celebrations of Mexican Independence Day. Audiences can watch the performance at Cinemark and Premiere cinemas.
Cuevas noted that while the original concert lasted nearly three hours, the theatrical version is shorter and curated to feature the most recognized songs, allowing for a unique experience where audiences can sing along as if participating in a massive karaoke event.
