Lt. Governor Aims to Raise Awareness and Share Information at Energy Cost Listening Tour Event

Virginia Lt. Gov. Ghazala Hashmi recently addressed concerns over rising energy costs during a Labor Day event in Hampton, part of her Energy Cost Listening Tour. Many Dominion Energy customers, including residents from Chesapeake and Newport News, expressed frustration over unexpectedly high bills.

Hampton resident Kiara Baker highlighted the financial strain, noting the need to cut back on expenses to maintain household comfort. The ongoing proposed merger between Dominion Energy and Florida-based NextEra Energy is adding to customer uncertainty, with Baker voicing skepticism about potential benefits from the merger.

Gov. Abigail Spanberger’s decision to intervene in the merger process was supported by Hashmi during her visit. She emphasized the importance of community engagement and informed decision-making regarding energy costs. A listening session was scheduled in Norfolk to further discuss these issues, aiming to empower residents to voice their concerns.
