“I Never Get Sick”: Joanna Lumley Shares Her Three Essential Nutrition Tips for Staying Fit and Healthy at 80

As autumn approaches, the risk of seasonal colds and flu also rises. Dame Joanna Lumley, at 80 years old and known for her vibrant energy and health, attributes her wellness to her diet. A lifelong vegetarian, she advises, “Eat stuff, mostly vegetables, not too much,” and emphasizes the importance of exercise, noting her habit of frequently using the stairs in her home.

Joanna believes that her vegetarianism has been beneficial in slowing the aging process, although she acknowledges that this lifestyle may not suit everyone. Notably, her husband is not a vegetarian but is still vital to her life.

Research aligns with her views: a 2023 study indicated that adults with healthy plant-based diets face a 14% lower risk of hospitalization due to respiratory infections. Furthermore, vegetarians reportedly have a 39% lower chance of contracting COVID-19 than meat-eaters. Additionally, a recent study found that vegetarian or vegan diets can significantly lower overall cholesterol levels, while another analysis of 1.8 million individuals suggested that such diets may reduce cancer risks.

Incorporating more plant-based foods into your diet could be a step toward better health this season.
