The Dominican Republic recently celebrated Joheirry Mola as the new Miss World 2026, crowned on September 5 during the 73rd competition held in Vietnam. Mola triumphed over contestants from various countries, with Spain’s Elisabeth Reynes finishing as first runner-up and Malaysia’s Taanusiya Chetty as second runner-up. The Miss World organization honored Mola on social media, showcasing moments from the event, including a heartfelt video of her on a flower-adorned throne.
The event also marked a transition in titleholders, with Suchata Chuangsri from Thailand, the previous Miss World, crowning Mola. Chuangsri had made history in May 2025 as Thailand’s first Miss World winner, focusing her reign on breast cancer awareness after her own experience discovering a lump at age 16.
Additionally, the competition featured notable moments, including Uganda’s Elle Muhoza, who showcased a gown symbolizing childbirth. Designed by Keesha Abdallah, “The Layers of Life” highlighted the journey of bringing life into the world through its layered design, each color representing different facets of a cesarean section process. Abdallah emphasized the piece’s intention was not to represent any specific race, but rather the universal experience of childbirth.
