Asia-Pacific Media Forum Focuses on Energy Cooperation

SHENZHEN, China, Sept. 7, 2026 — The Asia-Pacific Media Forum commenced on September 5 in Shenzhen, Guangdong, emphasizing the theme “Building a Path to Shared Prosperity for the Asia-Pacific Community: Media Consensus and Action.” Keynote speaker Qian Chaoyang, Chairman of China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd. (CSG), discussed the essential role of clean energy in propelling the economic growth of the region.

Key Highlights from the Forum:

• The Asia-Pacific region significantly influences global energy consumption and has diverse energy resources. CSG supports regional energy connectivity.

• CSG reported advancements in six key areas in the Greater Bay Area:

  1. Power Supply: Over 700 TWh of electricity consumed, with world-class power reliability.
  2. Clean Energy: 180 billion kWh transmitted annually from the West-to-East project, with more than half of installed capacity from renewables.
  3. Innovation: Leadership in complex grid operations and UHVDC technology.
  4. Smart Systems: Development of advanced AI models for power management.
  5. Regional Cooperation: Establishment of platforms for collaborative energy initiatives.

• CSG plans to enhance cross-border energy cooperation across the Asia-Pacific, having constructed significant transmission links with neighboring countries.

Future Developments

CSG aims to foster complementary energy resource use and increase regional collaboration, highlighting its commitment to a sustainable and interconnected energy future.

The forum gathered over 400 participants from more than 40 nations, alongside contributions from UN agencies and international organizations.
