Geely Riddara Launches New Electric Pickup Models in South Africa

JOHANNESBURG, Sept. 07, 2026 – On August 28, Geely Riddara launched right-hand-drive versions of the RD6 and RD6 ECON at the Festival of Motoring in South Africa. This introduction expands the brand’s presence in Southern Africa, offering local consumers new options in the new energy pickup segment.

At the launch, Greg Maruszewski, Chief Operating Officer of Geely Auto South Africa, emphasized the significance of the Riddara beyond just another electric vehicle, suggesting it could redefine South African bakkies.

The launch featured a challenging 4×4 track, where media and visitors put the vehicles to the test against steep gradients, water crossings, and muddy terrains. The RD6 showcased strong performance, agile handling, and excellent off-road capabilities, garnering positive feedback for comfort and performance.

Following the event, Riddara will embark on a cross-border expedition from Johannesburg to Xai-Xai, Mozambique, covering diverse terrains to further showcase the vehicles’ reliability.

Riddara has been a leader in China’s new energy pickup market, holding a 47.9% market share as of July 2026, and is also top-ranked in international markets such as Thailand and Chile.

With advanced technologies, Riddara pickups combine power with comfort, featuring a maximum power output of 315 kW, torque of 595 N·m, and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. Their intelligent four-wheel-drive systems enhance versatility for various terrains, making them well-suited for multiple real-world applications, from construction to agriculture.
