Rob Lowe recently shared that he lost out on significant film roles to Tom Cruise, including in iconic films like Jerry Maguire and Top Gun. He also discussed rumors about being considered for the role of Ferris Bueller in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, stating he was never actually in the running for it, and noted that director John Hughes wasn’t interested in casting him in his movies despite having multiple suitable roles. Lowe believes Hughes preferred to feature less known actors.
Reflecting on his career, Lowe mentioned feeling concerned about his future in Hollywood at one point in the ’90s, but he has since landed several memorable roles, including in the Austin Powers films. He’ll be reprising his character in an upcoming sequel.
