Miami-Dade County in Florida increases the cap on investments in Israeli bonds.

Miami-Dade County has approved a resolution to increase the share of county investments in Israeli bonds from 3% to 5%, allowing for potential investments totaling up to $450 million. This decision was made during a recent Board of County Commissioners meeting without public hearings. Israeli bonds currently comprise about 1.48% of the county’s investment portfolio, or roughly $130 million.

Activists, including the progressive group Jewish Voice for Peace, have criticized the move, citing concerns over Israel’s military actions in Gaza and advocating for divestment from Israeli bonds. They argue that public funds should prioritize community needs rather than enabling foreign government operations. Despite opposition from some residents and activists, the county emphasized the decision’s intent to provide greater flexibility and liquidity for investments.
