Lewis and Clark Saltmakers Event in Seaside

A special event celebrating the historic journey of Lewis and Clark will take place in Seaside, Oregon, on the weekend of September 12-13. The Seaside Museum and Historical Society is hosting the Lewis and Clark Saltmakers demonstration, showcasing how the explorers produced salt during their expedition over 200 years ago.

- Location: Beach west of Avenue U and the Promenade, Seaside.
Visitors can watch live demonstrations of boiling seawater to produce salt—a crucial process for preserving food during the expedition. Experienced members of the Pacific Northwest Living Historians will showcase this historic method while sharing insights about Lewis and Clark’s adventures along the coast.

- Parking: Limited, so walking or carpooling is recommended. Mobi-Mats are available for easier access for those with mobility challenges.
- Admission: Free and open to all ages.
- Funding: Supported by room tax dollars through the Seaside Tourism Advisory Committee, among other local sponsors.

The Seaside Museum is dedicated to preserving this history and is located at 570 Necanicum Drive, open Wednesday and Thursday from 11 AM to 4 PM.
