Residents in Portland’s Westmoreland neighborhood are expressing concerns over an increasing skunk population invading their yards. Many report being unable to enjoy their outdoor spaces due to skunks spraying their pets and roaming freely. One local resident has even captured video footage of dozens of skunks appearing in his yard, claiming they are present from dusk until dawn.
Veteran resident Mike Ray noted that in his 40 years in the area, he has never seen so many skunks. He described instances where skunks have approached his home, making it feel like they are infesting the neighborhood. Neighbors are seeking effective, humane ways to deter the skunks without causing them harm.
Efforts to contact skunk removal specialists have so far yielded no responses. The community hopes to find solutions that will allow them to reclaim their outdoor spaces without resorting to violence against the animals.
