DragonCon is taking place in Atlanta this weekend, but some fans are frustrated. Many booked accommodations at Stockbridge Suites nearly a year in advance, only to find out the hotel closed for renovations on July 31 without any warning. As a result, they were forced to book alternative lodging in the area, incurring an additional cost of $650. There’s currently no information regarding potential refunds.
Child Cruelty Charges:
In Augusta, a woman faces six charges of child cruelty after deputies discovered her six children living in unsanitary conditions. Richmond County sheriff’s deputies found the home filled with trash, decaying food, and insects while responding to an eviction. The children, aged five months to 14 years, were living in deplorable conditions, prompting the involvement of the Division of Family and Children Services. The defendant, 33-year-old Tisheika Washington, had at least four prior complaints related to child welfare since February.
Renovations at Gas South Arena:
Gas South Arena in Gwinnett County is set to undergo significant changes following a groundbreaking ceremony last week. The renovations are expected to cost $175 million and will take place over the next two years.
FAA Funding for Atlanta Airport:
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved a $100 million grant for runway, taxiway, and terminal reconstructions at Atlanta’s airport. This funding is part of a larger initiative, offering grants to 191 airports across 36 states and two territories, aimed at improving airport infrastructure.
