Downtown Myrtle Beach ArtWalk Comes Alive
On the evening of September 4, downtown Myrtle Beach buzzed with energy as local artists, musicians, and community members gathered for the F1rst Friday ArtWalk. The monthly event, hosted by the Myrtle Beach Downtown Alliance, showcased a rich tapestry of artistic experiences from 5 to 8 p.m., featuring live music, spoken word performances, paintings, sculptures, jewelry, and handmade crafts.
Community Support for Local Artists
Jason Greene, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Downtown Alliance, expressed excitement about providing a platform for local talent. “We want artists to feel welcome here,” he said. “With good foot traffic, this is a great opportunity for them to promote and sell their art.” Greene revealed that the organization has been managing the event for about three years, although it has a longer history.
The ArtWalk allowed both residents and visitors to explore downtown businesses, galleries, and community spaces while supporting local artists and engaging with the cultural scene.
Highlight Vendor: Designs by Melo
One standout at this month’s event was Designs by Melo, a family-owned business specializing in custom woodworking and design. Carmelo Genovevo, or Melo, the designer and carpenter, has lived in South Carolina since 2003. With 13 years of experience, he creates custom pieces that blend creativity, craftsmanship, and practicality.
Melo’s wife, Christina “Chrissy” Genovevo, emphasized their enthusiasm for participating in the ArtWalk and their goal to connect with customers through their unique woodworking skills.
The ArtWalk not only brings together local talent but also cultivates a sense of community, making downtown Myrtle Beach a vibrant hub for art and culture.
