Rob Lowe discloses that Tom Cruise landed film parts he tried out for.

Rob Lowe recently shared insights about his career and the roles he auditioned for but didn’t land. He mentioned that Tom Cruise often outpaced him for significant roles, like in “Top Gun” and “Jerry Maguire,” expressing his acknowledgment of Cruise’s star power.

Lowe also clarified a common misconception that he was vying for the lead in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” revealing that director John Hughes was not interested in casting him. Reflecting on this, Lowe noted that Hughes often preferred emerging actors, which led to his theory that being too well-known might have hindered his chances for certain roles.

In his latest film, “The Musical,” which releases on September 18, Lowe plays a middle school principal entangled in a romantic scenario that leads to complications. He also recounted his challenging transition to a new school in Malibu, where he felt like an outcast for his dedication to academics.
