Sacramento Company Innovates Clean Energy for AI Data Centers
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — LiCAP Technologies, a local clean energy technology firm, is pioneering advanced ultracapacitors that outperform traditional batteries in charging and energy release speed, utilizing a patented process that minimizes environmental impact.
Richard Qiu, president of LiCAP Technologies, stated, “We believe that Sacramento is a hub for clean technology in the region.” The company has introduced a new rack-level ultracapacitor energy storage system specifically designed for the demanding energy needs of AI data centers.
LiCAP employs a patented method known as “activated dry electrode technology,” which contrasts with the more common wet coating processes that are detrimental to the environment. Eric Fodge emphasized, “It’s a major environmental impact to remove that chemical from the process,” highlighting the technology’s sustainability.
The firm, which currently employs nearly 50 people, intends to triple its facility size and increase its workforce in the Sacramento area. Qiu expressed a commitment not only to technological innovation but also to community development, stating, “Our belief is not only are we making interesting technology, but also we want to make sure we’re building resources that help the local community.”
In June, the California Energy Commission recognized LiCAP’s potential by awarding the company an $11.3 million grant to enhance its manufacturing capabilities.
