Kent State Field Hockey Falls to Michigan
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Kent State Golden Flashes faced a tough challenge against the 8th-ranked Michigan Wolverines, suffering a 0-4 defeat on Friday evening. Despite their efforts, Kent State was significantly outshot, recording only three attempts compared to Michigan’s 28, with a disappointing one shot on goal.
Kent State’s defense showed resilience throughout the match, highlighted by goalkeeper Michaela Skinner, who made a remarkable 12 saves and bravely confronted 15 penalty corners from Michigan. The first quarter ended scoreless thanks to Skinner’s pivotal saves, including a crucial stop against Milaw Clause.
In the second quarter, the Wolverines surged, outshooting Kent State 11-0. Kelsey Reviello eventually broke the deadlock, scoring Michigan’s first goal just before halftime, leaving Kent State trailing 0-1.
The Golden Flashes fought back in the third quarter, with notable defensive plays from Ryli Zee, who halted a potential breakaway. Kent State generated their first real scoring opportunity with a penalty corner but failed to convert. Notably, Eva Usoz was instrumental in Kent State’s offense, creating opportunities and being responsible for all three of their shots.
Usoz delivered a well-aimed cross to Maybritt Duwel, who seemingly netted the equalizer late in the third quarter. However, the goal was overturned after a review deemed the play dangerous, leaving Kent State still down by one heading into the final quarter.
Michigan capitalized on their momentum in the fourth, scoring three more goals and sealing their victory at 4-0.

Kent State will remain in Ann Arbor to take on the undefeated Vermont Catamounts on Saturday at 2 p.m.
