Labor Day Holiday Travel Advisory from MHP

The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) has released a statement regarding the upcoming Labor Day holiday travel period, which begins on Friday, September 4, at 6 p.m. and ends on Monday, September 7, at midnight.
High-Visibility Patrols During Labor Day Travel
To ensure safe travel throughout the holiday weekend, troopers will implement high-visibility patrols and establish safety checkpoints. The primary goals are to deter speeding, impaired, or distracted driving, prevent fatal crashes, and enforce seatbelt usage.
Ensuring Safe Travel Across Mississippi
Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell emphasized the importance of safety during this holiday. He stated, “Labor Day weekend is a time for family, friends and enjoying the final days of summer, but safety has to remain a priority on our roadways. Every driver has a responsibility to make choices that protect not only themselves, but everyone traveling around them. Slow down, stay focused, buckle up and plan ahead if alcohol is part of your celebration. We are grateful to the law enforcement officers and first responders who will spend their holiday working to keep Mississippians safe.”
In 2025, MHP investigated 159 crashes over the Labor Day holiday period, including 3 fatal crashes that resulted in 3 fatalities. Law enforcement issued 617 citations for occupant restraint violations and made 92 DUI arrests on state and federal highway systems.
