Traverse City Light & Power (TCLP) is partnering with The Salvation Army to launch a local energy-assistance program starting October 1 to aid qualifying customers with electrical and heating costs. The program utilizes funds collected from TCLP customers under the Low-Income Energy Assistance Fund (LIEAF) and ensures that assistance stays within the community.
Key Details:
- Enrollment Process: Customers will receive an application through TCLP, which will verify electric account status before referring them to The Salvation Army for eligibility review.
Eligibility Requirements:
To qualify for assistance, applicants must:
- Meet current state income guidelines
- Be residents of Michigan
- Have an active TCLP electric account in their name
Important Notes:
- Assistance is subject to eligibility, funding availability, and agency capacity.
- This program will supplement other available energy assistance resources.
- Beginning September 1, 2026, the LIEAF surcharge on TCLP bills will rise to $1.50 per meter monthly to support local assistance.
- Applications will only be processed starting October 1.
