Microsoft is partnering with TCL to launch the Xbox app on selected TCL Smart TVs soon. This addition positions TCL alongside brands like Samsung, LG, and Hisense to offer Xbox Cloud Gaming. Users will need to download the Xbox app, use a compatible controller, and purchase Xbox Cloud Gaming playtime separately or through Xbox Game Pass, which provides access to a large library of games.
This streaming solution allows gamers to enjoy Xbox titles directly from their TV without requiring a console. Moreover, the Xbox Play Anywhere feature ensures that game save data syncs across different devices within the Xbox ecosystem.
While the move is generally seen as a positive expansion, excitement has waned due to recent decisions by Microsoft to impose limits on Xbox Cloud Gaming playtime starting November 2026. The limits are as follows:
- Essential: 5 hours/month, 50+ games, up to 1080p resolution
- Premium: 10 hours/month, 200+ games, up to 1080p resolution
- Ultimate: 15 hours/month, 400+ games, up to 1480p resolution
The new restrictions have raised concerns, particularly for users who viewed Cloud Gaming as an affordable alternative to owning a console. Players are now questioning the viability of continuing with the service given the imposed limits.
What are your thoughts? Is the new partnership appealing despite the restrictions, or are they causing you to reconsider your gaming options?
