A dog daycare owner in Wheeling, Illinois, has been charged with animal cruelty after a black Labrador named Miller died in a hot vehicle. The owner, Ross Niehaus, was arrested but released pending a court appearance.
The incident occurred after Steve Serota, Miller’s owner, received a call that his dog had died after being left in a vehicle from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Serota described Miller as a beloved family member and could not comprehend how staff overlooked the dog. He emphasized the need for accountability to prevent future occurrences.
Waggles Pet Resort, the daycare involved, expressed their devastation over the incident and is reaching out to customers to discuss the situation. The family hopes to raise awareness about the importance of pet safety.
