Nicodemus Cards & Gaming Celebrates New Location

WARSAW – Pokémon is one of the popular trading card games available at Nicodemus Cards & Gaming’s new location at 151 S. High St., Warsaw.

Interestingly, the address carries significance in the Pokémon community. Mike Hadley, Co-Owner of Nicodemus Cards & Gaming, explained, “There are 151 Pokémon in the original base set. So, in the world of nerdy Pokémon stuff, 151 is a very significant kind of thing. So, when we saw the 151, we were like, ‘Okay.’ So, there’s that tie-in as well.”

The business celebrated its new location on Thursday, Sept. 3, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside the Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce. “We moved here one week ago today,” Hadley shared.

Growth and Community Engagement

“Nicodemus Cards & Gaming sells sports and trading cards, trading card games, board games, and associated supplies and collectibles,” Hadley said. The store features a play space that accommodates about 85 people for tournaments and events like Pokémon, Lorcana, and Magic the Gathering.

“We’re really focused on making genuine connections with our customers,” Hadley noted. “Every single employee is a customer we got to know well and offered a position to.”

Hadley emphasized his desire not to grow too quickly while navigating a successful year, with over 50% growth since opening in April 2021.

Events and Future Plans

Nicodemus Cards & Gaming hosts weekly events with a focus on Trading Card Games, including youth leagues. “Our goal is to create a safe and enjoyable space for young players,” Hadley explained.

The store also plans to develop a clubhouse space for 24/7 access and expand event hours during the holiday season. Currently, the store operates from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday & Thursday, and varying hours on weekends.

A Unique Store Name

Interestingly, Nicodemus is not related to any owners or staff. It’s named after a character from the ‘Secret of NIMH’ and Maid Marian’s cat from ‘Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.’

Hadley remarked, “We just kind of wanted a name that was fun and unique, which is how Nicodemus was chosen.”
