Xbox Game Pass Users Will Lose a Major Benefit This November

Microsoft is implementing monthly usage limits for Xbox Cloud Gaming starting in November, following an increase in operational costs. The new limits based on subscription tiers are as follows:

  • 15 hours for Game Pass Ultimate
  • 10 hours for Premium
  • 5 hours for Essential

This change affects about 4% of Xbox Game Pass subscribers. Those affected can purchase additional gaming time, which will also be available for non-subscribers. Microsoft cited the need to balance service affordability with continued investments in cloud gaming reliability.

The limits present an opportunity for Xbox One owners to access Xbox Series X and S games without needing a new console, amid rising hardware prices due to component shortages. Previously, Microsoft raised prices for consoles and Game Pass subscriptions, and despite recent reductions in Game Pass costs, these cloud gaming changes indicate ongoing attempts to manage operational costs.

This shift in strategy follows previous challenges within the Xbox division, including significant layoffs and the recent resignation of Phil Spencer, once a prominent figure in Xbox leadership.
