The Orange Blossom Classic is making its highly anticipated return to Miami Gardens this Labor Day weekend, featuring a celebration of football, music, and historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). First held in 1933, this event has been a significant platform for Black college athletes, especially during the era of segregation, and continues to honor HBCU culture and community.
Kickstarting the weekend’s festivities was a career fair on Tuesday, followed by a scholarship fundraising luncheon on Friday at Jungle Island. Attendees can also look forward to signature parties, including a denim party and an all-white party over the weekend.
The main event occurs Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium, starting with a fan fest featuring Miami artists like Trina and Trick Daddy, with actor Lorenz Tate making an appearance. The football showdown will see South Carolina State face off against Florida A&M University at 3 p.m., accompanied by halftime performances from renowned HBCU marching bands.
Since its revival in 2021, the Orange Blossom Classic has generated significant economic impact for South Florida and provided substantial scholarships. Executive director Kendra Bulluck-Major emphasizes that purchasing a ticket contributes to this mission, viewing attendees as donors supporting the community.
