Microsoft Opens Xbox Cloud Gaming Without Subscription
Microsoft is set to roll out a new option for Xbox Cloud Gaming, allowing players to access cloud play without a Game Pass subscription starting in November. Users can purchase playtime hours through the Xbox Store to stream games they already own.
How It Works
Players will buy blocks of cloud playtime hours via the Xbox Store, utilizing these hours to stream eligible games. Specific pricing details haven’t been revealed yet, and options will vary by market once the update goes live.

According to reports, the pricing will reflect the service’s operational costs and will be organized into packages rather than billed by the minute or hour.
Target Audience
This new option caters to casual gamers who play occasionally and choose not to maintain a monthly subscription, as well as owners of older consoles who want to play newer titles without investing in new hardware. Xbox Cloud Gaming allows players with an Xbox One to access games designed for the Series X and S without needing to upgrade.
This initiative transforms cloud streaming from a Game Pass feature into a standalone product. Microsoft plans to expand its game library for cloud streaming throughout the year, although it’s yet to specify which games will be available at launch.
Upcoming details on pricing and eligible games will be announced ahead of November’s rollout. Additionally, Microsoft has introduced limitations on cloud gaming for Game Pass subscribers, capping playtime to 15 hours per month on the highest plan.
