AUSTIN, Texas — Austin Pets Alive! is working to help animals affected by severe flooding in Livingston, an East Texas community impacted by the remnants of Tropical Storm Edouard.
The organization received an urgent request from a small rescue group in Livingston on Wednesday night as their limited foster network began to flood. In response, Austin Pets Alive! is transporting 15 cats, nine Chihuahuas, and about 12 mid-sized dogs to its facility.
Among the rescued animals is a dog that jumped through a closed window in fear during the storm, suffering multiple cuts. A local veterinarian has stabilized it, and the dog is expected to travel to Austin with the other animals.
The transport is anticipated to arrive at the shelter around 3 p.m. Community members are encouraged to come to the shelter to foster the incoming pets, understanding that the animals may be anxious after their ordeal. Vaccinations will be administered during the intake process.
Even if the transported animals are not yet present, fostering or adopting animals already in the shelter would help make space for the new arrivals. Austin Pets Alive! is also accepting donations to support this rescue effort.
