A St. Clair Shores man, Michael Sikorski, has been sentenced to 30 days in jail and 18 months of probation after pleading no contest to third-degree animal torture for abusing his dog, Steel. The abuse, which occurred on March 15, involved slamming the dog into the ground and kicking it multiple times. Fortunately, the dog was not permanently injured and has since been rehomed.
Sikorski’s sentence also prohibits him from consuming alcohol and owning or being around animals. He is required to wear an alcohol tether for 90 days. Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido emphasized the importance of caring for pets and condemned such abusive behavior, stating that society will not tolerate it.
In Michigan, penalties for animal cruelty can vary, with third-degree torture carrying a maximum sentence of four years.
