In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she explained the distinction between her previous dance training and the new skills required for ballroom, highlighting the need to “unlearn” certain habits.
At 45, Dewan expressed her nerves about competing, stating that her dance experience adds a layer of pressure. Her pro partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, backed her up, pointing out that the show is more than just about dance and involves revealing personal journeys. Other contestants this season include Harry Shum Jr., Julia Stiles, and Ciara Miller. Shum Jr. also defended his own casting, noting the vast diversity of dance styles.
