NASCAR Drivers Competing for Appearances Following Tom Cruise’s ‘Days of Thunder’ Sequel Announcement

Logano Eyes Role in “Days of Thunder” Sequel

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Joey Logano, a three-time Cup Series champion and winner of 71 NASCAR races, expressed his enthusiasm for potentially landing a cameo in the much-anticipated sequel to “Days of Thunder,” which is slated to star Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway, hitting theaters in 2028.

Logano, who drives the No. 22 Penske Racing Ford, believes that appearing in the film would earn him significant “dad points” with his five children. At the NASCAR playoff media day, he remarked, “Yeah, are you kidding me — that’s like wicked cool dad points to be in ‘Days of Thunder.’”

He isn’t alone in his quest for a role; fellow NASCAR driver Chase Briscoe also wants to be included, stating, “Absolutely, I would love to be… I would love to be in there.”

Kyle Larson, while excited about the film, humorously noted, “I’m not an actor, so I don’t want to make the film worse.”

Filming Schedule

The sequel is set to begin filming early next year. Logano, who has shared the original Days of Thunder with his children, hopes to leverage connections to secure a small part, saying, “Hopefully that happens… Absolutely I’d do it.”

Cruise Engages with Drivers

Recently, Tom Cruise surprised drivers by attending a Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway. He participated in a drivers’ council meeting, discussing how he aims to depict NASCAR in the sequel, resulting in a productive dialogue with drivers and team owners.

Briscoe described Cruise as “super nice” after the surprise meeting, where he shared his vision for the film.

Potential Involvement of Hendrick Motorsports

While it remains uncertain whether Hendrick Motorsports will play a role in the sequel, there is strong hope among drivers for collaboration. Four-time Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon, now vice chairman at Hendrick Motorsports, has been a proponent for the sequel and shares a friendship with Cruise, highlighting the potential for ongoing partnership.

Larson expressed his excitement over meeting Cruise and looks forward to learning about the filmmaking process. “He’s a celebrity like I’ve never met before in my life,” he said, appreciating Cruise’s interest in NASCAR.

Conclusion

As the momentum builds for the Days of Thunder sequel, NASCAR drivers are eagerly vying for a spot in the film, blending the thrilling world of racing with Hollywood’s star power.
