Kany García Takes Her “Puerta Abierta” Tour to the U.S.
MEXICO CITY – Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Kany García, celebrated for her intimate and personal music, is expanding her horizons with her upcoming “Puerta Abierta” tour in the United States.
Following successful performances that attracted over 14,000 fans in Mexico City’s Palacio de los Deportes and 15,000 in Medellín, Colombia, García’s U.S. leg kicks off on September 7 in Highland, California, traversing major cities like San Antonio, Orlando, Los Angeles, and Chicago, as well as Toronto and Montreal in Canada. She will also appear at Billboard Latin Music Week in Miami this October.
García emphasizes a focus on the moment, aiming to create a genuine connection with her audience. To enhance this experience, she engages with the local culture, including reading local newspapers during her travels.
In an interview, she expressed the challenge of maintaining her essence amidst the larger venues, yet her goal is to foster intimacy through her performances. García plans to showcase more instruments than before to enrich the audience experience, leveraging her piano skills and collaborating with regional Mexican musicians.
Her recent works include collaborations with artists like Carín León and Christian Nodal. She emphasizes that regional Mexican music is ingrained in her identity, stating, “It’s embedded in my entire system… I do it in a way that feels very natural to me.”
The tour features hits from her latest album “Puerta Abierta,” including the popular duet “La mala era yo” with Mexican singer Yuridia, which delves into themes of accountability between women, moving past the role of victimhood.
Visually, the concert integrates dynamic imagery that reflects García’s story, including a representation of her childhood self—signifying her roots and upbringing.
In her song “La culpa,” in collaboration with the Venezuelan band Rawayana, she reflects on Caribbean life and resilience amidst challenges, including recent disasters affecting Latin America.
García advocates for ongoing support to those in need, stressing the importance of sustained humanitarian efforts amid crises in Colombia and Venezuela. “What we are experiencing is devastating… It’s essential to support today, and to continue that support,” she urges.
As García prepares for her tour, she remains dedicated to her musical journey and her cultural and humanitarian commitments.
