Das Haus Reopens: A Celebration for the LGBTQ+ Community
After a brief hiatus, Das Haus is back in business, reopening its doors on August 22 with a lively karaoke celebration. The bar had announced its closing on June 17 due to a breach of contract by original buyers, but owner Bryan Ruhs stepped in, purchasing the venue back with the help of a GoFundMe campaign and benefit events.
With renovations ongoing, only the front room is currently open for patrons, as the Das Haus team is eager to welcome everyone back. Show director and drag performer Onya Bitch shared their excitement about reuniting with the community, likening the experience to returning to school after summer break.
Regular patrons like Emily Rose and Jamie Belford expressed their sense of loss during the closure, underscoring the bar’s role as a safe and welcoming space for the LGBTQ+ community. With the closure of another local LGBTQ+ venue, Dame, Das Haus remains the only official queer bar in Lincoln, highlighting its importance in providing a supportive environment.
With hopes for growth and improvement, the community and the staff at Das Haus are committed to ensuring it remains a cherished space for all.
