Shell to Assume Complete Ownership of Tri Star Energy for U.S. Retail Expansion

Shell is acquiring full control of U.S. convenience store and fuel distributor Tri Star Energy, doubling its own convenience retail footprint in the country. The deal will increase Shell’s ownership of Tri Star from 33% to 100%, bringing in 320 retail sites in Tennessee and nearby states, along with agreements for 552 dealer-operated locations. Although financial details remain undisclosed, the acquisition is set to close by the end of 2026, pending regulatory approval.

The investment aligns with Shell’s strategy to enhance its retail operations in the U.S., where it currently operates approximately 12,000 sites, mostly through dealers. Tri Star, founded in 2000, includes brands like Twice Daily and White Bison Coffee, and Shell expects this acquisition to boost its fuel distribution and higher-margin convenience sales. The move follows other recent expansions in Shell’s retail business and reflects its broader capital-allocation strategy aimed at maximizing returns in key markets.
