SFUSD Takes Action Against Lowell High’s Baseball Program

The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) has mandated that Lowell High School’s varsity baseball team forfeit several games and replace its head coach following a racial incident that occurred last spring.
Investigation Findings
The district’s announcement came after releasing the findings of an investigation during a virtual meeting on Sunday. According to SFUSD, the incident involved reports of race-based taunting by varsity players at a junior varsity game.
The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) also conducted its own investigation, which concluded that Lowell High violated sportsmanship rules.
Consequences
As a result of these findings, the baseball program will face the following consequences:
- Forfeiture of three games.
- Appointment of an interim head coach.
In a statement, SFUSD emphasized its position against racism, stating, “There is no place for racism, discrimination, or radicalized harm in the Lowell community or anywhere in the district.”
The disciplinary actions follow the district’s and CIF’s investigations into the incident.
