Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will not include any microtransactions involving generative AI assets at launch.
On August 28, the company shared an extended gameplay look captured on a PlayStation 5, which is expected to provide the best experience for the game. Following this, various articles and interviews were released, revealing that the game will be more grounded and realistic compared to previous entries in the series.
Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, mentioned in an interview with Dazed that there will be “no monetizations in this game” and GTA 6 will not incorporate AI elements. Strauss Zelnick, head of Take Two Interactive, reiterated this by emphasizing that generative AI plays no role in what Rockstar is creating, stating their worlds are handcrafted.
Despite the absence of AI and microtransactions, Take Two is exploring AI for efficiency in other areas.
Additionally, early pre-orders revealed an Ultimate edition of the game that offers premium content, although this has sparked some backlash over features being locked behind a paywall. Nonetheless, many fans opted for the more expensive version.
