Development Odds Increase on Tropical Wave

Fort Myers, Fla. — The Gulf Coast Hurricane Tracking Team is currently monitoring two invest areas for potential tropical development.

Key Updates:

  • Tropical Wave Near Africa (Invest 96L):

    • Development odds have increased to 70% over the next 48 hours and remain at 70% for the next 7 days.
    • The disturbance is moving west at 15-20 mph and may strengthen into a tropical depression as it travels through warm Atlantic waters.
  • Sloppy Area of Showers (Invest 95L):

    • Located several hundred miles east-northeast of Bermuda, the development odds for Invest 95L have fallen to 20% for both the next two days and the next week.
    • This system poses no threat to Florida.

Additional Information:

  • If a named storm forms, the next name on the list is Dolly.
  • The peak of hurricane season activity is expected around September 10th.
